Imagine Me & You - Me and You & Sentimental Song Lyrics
76"Me and you song lyrics" is a topic that just oozes sentimentality. It begs for a sweetly sentimental take on relationships and love, and where better to find such a treatment than in the pop lyrics of the early 1960s. There was an innocence to the songs, whether they were celebrating a first love, puppy love, or the "real thing" - the love that would last for all eternity.
Even when the lyrics made a passing reference to ruined reputations, as in "Wake Up, Little Suzie", the bouncy, up-beat outpouring of teen-age angst at staying out too late delivers its message in such tuneful harmony that one tends to doubt the relative seriousness of the problem.
We all know relationship problems never really cease to plague us, and they are just as serious for us later in life as they were when we were teenagers. It was all so fresh and new then, though. When we look back though, some of those lyrics remind us of a gentler time - a time when it seemed like we had all the time in the world, and all that was really important was embodied in the lyrics of a song that felt like it was written just for "me and you".
One of the first songs that comes to mind when I think about this era is "So Happy Together" by The Turtles.
Imagine me and you, I do
I think about you day and night, it's only right
To think about the girl you love and hold her tight
So happy together
If I should call you up, invest a dime
And you say you belong to me and ease my mind
Imagine how the world could be, so very fine
So happy together
I can't see me lovin' nobody but you
For all my life
When you're with me, baby the skies'll be blue
For all my life
Me and you and you and me
No matter how they toss the dice, it has to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy together
I can't see me lovin' nobody but you
For all my life
When you're with me, baby the skies'll be blue
For all my life
Me and you and you and me
No matter how they toss the dice, it has to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy together
Ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba
Ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba
Me and you and you and me
No matter how they toss the dice, it has to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy together
So happy together
How is the weather
So happy together
We're happy together
So happy together
Happy together
So happy together
So happy together (ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba)
The Turtles were an American band that blurred the boundaries between pop, psychedelic and folk rock. A precursor of the "bubblegum pop" sounds of the late 1960s, their music was characterized by diametric opposites. Never angst-ridden or blackly rebellious, their good-natured, and joyously melancholic sound nevertheless exhibited a cheeky irreverence for conventionality.
No less irreverent, but infinitely more poignant, this ballad by John Lennon sums up a dream for our future. Though both lyrics begin with the word "Imagine", but the similarity ends there. A far cry from popular teen-angst, this manifesto of a better world conjures up images of an earnest face, naked cover art, long hair, and little round glasses that now bear his name.

Some feel that John Lennon's beautiful lyrics are merely a sentimental view of a world that could be.

Very nice hub!! Thank You!
Nice hub, my sister was a big fan of the Turtles when we were growing up, so the music is an old friend to me. The "you and me" songs speak from the soul in a way that so many songs can't even hope to.
Thanks, I think I'll go play some music.
