Who could resist a gift of silky, satin-edged lingerie? Gone are the days when modesty decreed that women hang their laundry on the clothes line with their small clothes, their corset covers and lace-trimmed knickers, concealed inside pillow cases.

Today, there are entire clothing stores devoted to women's undergarments. Whether your fancy is for something sheer and sexy, or for a dainty and demure lace ensemble, ever since Madonna wore her "undies" as outer-wear, it seems that almost anything goes. No longer the sole domain of naughty ladies, fancy "frilly-dillies" have become the undergarments of choice for any well-turned out woman.

St. Valentine's Day, paradoxically known for being both the date of a bloody massacre as well as for being one of the most romantic dates on the calendar, is the perfect time to cast off your inhibitions and head off in search of the perfect gift of intimate apparel for that special someone.

One of my friends recently discovered a brand of low-rise with stretch lace tops that are so soft and comfortable, and she swears they make her jeans slide on incredibly easily - "as if she had buttered her butt" was the expression she used.

Romance need not be confined to only one day out of the year. Any day can be turned into a special time, whether for a weekend get-away or an intimate evening together.

Try scattering some rose petals on freshly scented sheets. Then turn on some soft music, turn down the lights and let the soft glow of a dozen candles set the mood.

Chocolates and champagne make a wonderful first course to the evening's entertainment.

If time and finances permit, you might consider a tropical getaway.
